Review :
A nice dramatization of history
When I saw this movie, I just assumed that all the characters were actual historical personalities. Nothing I have been able to dig up on the name of the lead character, Thor Espedal, indicates that this is true. So I conclude it is a fictionalization. This is kind of disappointing since Norway is such a small country. But, on the other hand, that might explain precisely why real characters are not used.
And that is what the movie is about, it is about Norway and its response to the invasion there by Nazi Germany. It focuses on the efforts of an old retired officer to collect some uniformed resistance in the countryside of Norway. There is plenty of drama and some humor, but very little combat which is only natural since they are so lightly armed. If you are looking for hard history, you might be disappointed, but a reliable impression of Norway's plight and what actually happened is delivered in a well told story and well made movie.
It was subtitled in English on my rented DVD.
